Did you know that RCYC Members’ children and grandchildren can learn to sail free of charge with our Junior Sailing programme? Our knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers run dinghy training sessions for youngsters to grow their skills and confidence on the water. We’ve had up to twenty children enjoying themselves on 3 Fevas, a Pico and a 2 Hartleys. It’s been enormous fun for the children, the helpers and the spectators ashore. We’ve had lots of laughs and huge smiles, even though it’s not been plain sailing! We’ve been rained off… and becalmed… and we’ve sanitised and socially-spaced our way through the Spring and early Summer.
Now the schools have broken up, there are still three more sessions before the Autumn, and we’re keen to make sure all our RCYC children know they’re very welcome to join us. Our fleet will soon increase in size. We’re combining some of the location fee we had from the CNN news team with a donation from Falmouth Harbour Commissioners, and we’ll hopefully be buying up to three more dinghies. If your children have friends who’d like to take part, the sessions are open to non-members for a small fee.
The remaining sessions are: Saturday August 21, 4.30-6.30pm
Saturday September 18, 3.30-5.30pm
We’d love to see you and your children down on the beach with us. It’s a great way to get them learning independence on the water – and a lovely way to meet other members on the beach. Please email Melody Hitchens: firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more.
