Celebrating our Patron’s 70th Birthday
Five RCYC Club members, representing various elements of the RCYC, were privileged to receive an invitation to Buckingham Palace to attend a Garden Party on Tuesday of this week in recognition of our Patron HRH The Prince of Wales’s 70th Birthday later this year. The event which was also attended by HRH Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, only 4 days after their wedding at Windsor Castle, was held in glorious sunshine and there was an attendance of over 6,000 trying to catch a glimpse of the newlyweds. Those attending were representatives of the Prince’s Charities, Patronages and other organisations of which he is similarly associated, and the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall circulated among those present during the afternoon. There was afternoon tea for those wanting to indulge and the whole ambience of the event was one of pleasant informality. I am reliably informed by Cinzia, the Commodore’s wife that she took a detailed note of the fashion favoured by the two duchesses, should there be any lady members wishing to follow the trend.
It was a privilege to be invited and it has once again placed the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club at the notice of the Lord Chamberlain’s Office, for which we should all be grateful.
RCYC BBQ with Sir Robin Knox Johnston
Wednesday 13th June, 7pm
As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Suhaili’s momentous Golden Globe win, and the arrival of the 2018 Golden Globe fleet in Falmouth, we will be hosting a BBQ here at the RCYC on Wednesday 13th June at 7pm with Sir Robin Knox Johnston, sailors taking part in the Parade of Sail and also invited dignitaries.
This is a ticketed event. RCYC Members can purchase tickets in advance from the Bar for £15 per person. Non Members will be able to purchase tickets via this link for £18 per person.
To finish off the evening at 10pm Falmouth Town Council will be putting on a firework display from Pendennis Castle which can be viewed from the Club lawn.

The Crown – Season 1
To complete our run of Season 1, the final 2 episodes will be shown on 30th May at 8pm. All episodes stand alone very well, so don’t worry if you missed the earlier showings.
Quiz Night – 20th June
The ever popular quizzes will now be running monthly during the rest of the summer, so whether you are a regular quizzer or not, please come and join in starting on 20th June at 7pm. This will be the traditional format, but we would like to perhaps alternate with the QuizGo version introduced by Nick Ames in April. Later dates will be 18th July and 22nd August, so if any quizmasters would like to volunteer a quiz for one of those dates please let a member of the Social Committee know.
If anyone wishes to hone their baking skills as a practice run for Falmouth Week, we would welcome donations of cakes for the Falmouth Town Regatta teas at RCYC on Saturday 16th June. We will not have access to the cold store, so would ask that cakes are delivered to us in the back courtyard at around 3pm.
The Royal Wedding
Well they didn’t receive an invitation to the actual wedding but these Club members looked stunning and they, along with a number of other members, thoroughly enjoyed watching the event on the large TV screen and also the sumptuous High Tea served by our catering team.
GARDEN WORKING PARTY
Wednesday, 30 May at 9.30am
Extra hands required to do a make-over on the flower bed in the rear marquee. We are hoping to do a really good tidy up and put down weed suppressing membrane and stone chippings. The plan is to have pots of herbs which the Chef can then utilise in the kitchen. A few extra men would be really good to help move the bags of chippings! The group has been a little thin on the ground the last few months and some additional help would be very welcome. New faces are always welcome. There are a number of events coming up in the near future and we would really like to improve the appearance of this back entrance! As usual sensible shoes and gloves and a few hand tools if you have them. Hopefully we will be potting up the tubs too with summer bedding if you prefer a more sedate activity! Coffee will be provided.
In addition if you have any large terracotta pots going spare, which can be used for the herbs please leave them by the back entrance. The pots should be at least 10-12 inch diameter please.
Any questions in the meantime please contact Rachel 01326 212185 or Eleanor 01326 318351.
Is this your Seago Dinghy?
The Seago dinghy pictured has no stickers on and is causing an obstruction in the compound.
If it belongs to you and you have paid for a dinghy space please come and identify it and place it in the correct space with the 2018 stickers.
If we hear nothing by the end of this month, we will remove the dinghy.
Dinghy Park stickers
If you have not yet collected your 2018 stickers for the dinghy park please call in to the office as soon as possible, or alternatively, let us know if you wish them to be left in the letter rack in the entrance hall or posted to you.
