“Push The Boat Out Day”
Don’t forget our “Push the Boat Out Day” is tomorrow from 11am until 5pm. If you know of anyone who is thinking of joining or who would like to give sailing a try, please bring them along. There will be plenty to see and do – the RNLI, Maritime and Coastguard Agency and the Fire Brigade will be here doing demonstrations. Tea and refreshments available in the marquee and the Clubhouse.
Club racing was abandoned last Friday due to a lack of wind!
However, the COGS Falmouth – Roscoff race did take place – click here to read the full report on their website. The next race is Gull Rock Manacles on 27 May (organised by Flushing SC) – entry form here
This season’s Junior Sailing will be launching tomorrow at the Club’s “Push The Boat Out” event which is running from 11am to 5pm. We advise that anyone considering attending comes along earlier rather than later as we have more volunteers to help during the first part of the day and so waits should be shorter.
Our next session will be on Sunday 20th May at 10am. We expect these sessions to last up to 2 hours. It would be helpful if the children could be there in good time and be changed ready to start at the specified time above. If anyone does have their own wetsuits, buoyancy aids, etc it may be worth them bringing them along.
While we are establishing Junior Sailing, we plan to run sessions on or around high tides. This will allow us to hold the sessions in the basin area in front of the club. Hopefully, if interest in this endeavour grows both with participants and volunteers, we would hope to extend the frequency of the sessions and possibly move some of the more experienced sailors out into the main channel. Please see below for more dates and times of further sessions throughout the season. It would be helpful if you could let me know if you are planning to attend these sessions. This will not only allow to plan the sessions better but will also allow me to inform you if a session needs to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
After a free taster session, there will be a fee of £15 for the season to take part in Junior Sailing. This money is to be ringfenced for the sole use of Junior Sailing to provide us with funds for replacing/repairing our equipment.
We are also looking for more volunteers to assist with these sessions so if there is anyone out there who may be able to assist your input (however small) would be really appreciated.
If you have any further questions or wish to join in with Junior Sailing, do not hesitate to contact Melody at firstname.lastname@example.org

BE PART OF HISTORY!
CLUB “AMBASSADORS†WANTED
HELP HOST THE 50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS OF SUHAILI’S MOMENTOUS GOLDEN GLOBE WIN WITH THE 2018 COMPETITORS.
Suhaili was famously the first yacht to be sailed non-stop around the world single-handed in the 1968-69 Golden Globe Race. RCYC members will know that her intrepid skipper (Sir) Robin Knox-Johnston stepped ashore at the Club (where the steps used to be!). Few people back in 1968 gave the 29-year-old merchant seaman any chance of winning the Golden Globe. But of the nine who entered, only one finished, 313 days later. And the rest is history.
Now, 50 years on, Suhaili is back on the water and will be arriving with Sir Robin in Falmouth to take part in a Parade of Sail on June 14 to mark the anniversary. It gets better: a number of other globe trotters including Gypsy Moth IV and Lively Lady will take part in the parade. Better still the complete fleet of the 2018 Golden Globe Race will be here too, prior to the SITRaN Challenge charity race to Les Sables d’Olonne as a warm-up to the 2018 Golden Globe itself.
And this is where Club Members come in and why we are
looking for Ambassadors.
The fleet consists of 19 individuals of the following nationalities: Irish, Indian, Italian, Dutch, USA/Palestinian, French, Australian, Estonian, Turkish, Norwegian, Finnish, Hungarian, Russian and of course British/English (language skills are not essential as most of the competitors are English speakers).
Ideally we need 19 Ambassadors who can attach themselves to the competitors during their time here, help them find their way around, welcome them to the Club, offer advice into best local outlets (sailmakers, chandlers, riggers, dentists, doctors, chemist, restaurants etc).
Please all, do think if you could step up and represent the hospitality the RCYC is justly known for. It won’t be too onerous, it will be fun and you will be part of history in the making!
Andrew Pool has kindly offered to coordinate the “Embassy†and very, very much looks forward to hearing from you at email@example.com
