We are very fortunate to have a number of volunteers who keep the Club alive. We would not be able to exist without your help and we would not be able to run the many events we hold, such as the Flying Fifteen Nationals, AZAB Race, Sailing for the Blind, as well as the regular Club racing and regattas and all the work which goes on behind the scenes, for example, ensuring the launch runs smoothly and the dinghy park is secure.
It is especially rewarding when the work of our volunteers is recognised, in this case by the RYA – pictured above is Neil Hopkins who recently went to collect his community award from Princess Anne.
History of the RCYC
We have reduced the selling price to Members to just £20. The book charts the history of the Club in detail, from its founding in 1871, through the World Wars, to 2012, and includes many fascinating chapters such as those recording the Royal Patronage and also some notable past Members. The hardback book is 288 pages with hundreds of illustrations and images. It makes a great Chistmas gift! Copies available through the office or the bar.
A huge thank you to all those who turned out on Tuesday morning and helped trim up the Club ready for the Christmas period.
Also a thank you to Neil and Julie for erecting the Christmas tree on the Upper Deck.
The tree is a particularly good specimen this year and as some members were heard to say – “just like the one in the Nutcracker Suite!†Come along and see it for yourself.
Christmas at the RCYC
Don’t forget to put your name down for the Quiz Night next Wednesday, Carols Evening on the 15th and parents/grandparents, make sure your little ones are booked in for the Christmas Party on Sunday 17th December. The Christmas Draw is also now available at just a £1 a slot, money please to our Bar Staff. The draw will take place on Saturday 23rd December at the Punch Party, after which the Club will close for the Christmas Period. Then for the final event of the year, the New Year’s evedinner and dance – there is still space if you wish to join those who have already booked.
Our next Carvery Lunch on Sunday 10th December will have a Christmas feel with roast turkey or beef plus all the trimmings, served between 12 and 2pm, priced at £12.95 per person (starters and puddings extra).
Our Christmas Party menu is available lunchtime and evening – it is great value at just £20 per person for three courses, or if you want a light bite you can have 2 courses for £16 or starter for £6.50, main for £12.95 and dessert £4.50.
Or just come on in out of the cold and have a drink – mulled wine and mince pies available for £3.50.
Bring friends and family, make up a table but please do let us know in advance so that we can accommodate you by phoning us on 01326 311105.
To book for any of our events, please either call in to the Club and sign up on the list in the bar or telephone the office 01326 312126 or the bar 01326 311105 and we will be happy to add your name.
MISSING SEWING MACHINE
We would still like to hear from anyone who has any information about the sewing machine. It did not get sold at the Charity Coffee morning and so was brought up to the conference room for safekeping. It is very disappointing to think that someone may have taken it from the premises without permission. The Member who kindly donated the sewing machine was keen that the sum raised should go to the Commodore’s charity.
Clubhouse opening times – Christmas and winter
The Club will close after the Punch Party and Draw on Saturday 23rd December and will re-open on Wednesday 17th January 2018, following our annual maintenance and deep cleaning. (We will be open for the New Year’s Eve party on Sunday 31st December).
A reminder also that the Club is closed Sunday evenings, all day Monday and Tuesday evenings. On Tuesdays although the Clubhouse is open during the day there is no bar and catering service. (Coffee and tea available with honesty box). For full details of opening times please see visit the RCYC website.
