CARRS Land Rover Flying Fifteen National Championships (FF15)
As notified last week the FF15 National Championships is taking place from 27 – 30 September and we now have almost 50 entries from across the UK so it promises to be a great event.
We still need helpers for launch and recovery, especially on the Saturday – timings will probably be around 10am and 4pm – please contact Dave Owens firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help or speak to Robin Taylor – 07836 359621 – for more information.
It has been decided to revert to the practice of awarding the two principal Cruising Trophies annually at the AGM, the trophies being the P M Holman Trophy for the best Cruising Log, and the Vage Cruising Flagon for the most Meritorious Voyage. These two trophies will be next awarded in April 2018 and we are looking for submissions to be received by 1st March 2018. So if you haven’t already put together a record of your exploits why not escape for the winter and set sail for warmer climes, just let us know how you get on.
Newsletter Erratum – 8th September 2017
To clarify the position of PoFSA members using RCYC outside major events such as Falmouth Week, when they already benefit from temporary membership, it is proposed to address the situation with a possible rule change to be put to Members at the Spring AGM.
Members who have concerns about this may contact Peter Morgan, Hon Sec.
Bridge will recommence on Thursday afternoons from October 5th onwards. We are a mixed ability group, and the better players are tolerant of the less experienced. Anyone who might be interested could telephone Andrew Pool on 01326 374433 or just turn up ready to play at 2pm.
Thursday November 30th will take the form of a Bridge Drive in aid of the Macmillan charity to be organised by Mariquita Hichens. Full details will be published in due course.
The nights are drawing in and that can only mean one thing – talks at the club will start shortly. Lists are now up for our first talk on 6th October by a member of Bristow’s Helicopter Search and Rescue Service and also for the talk on 20th October by David Pollard about the Cutty Sark, the exceptional and highly successful Tea Clipper. David Pollard, who lives in Cornwall, is well known for his talks on cruise ships, including Cunard. The Club is extremely lucky to have both these speakers so please support them.
Saturday 21st October is Trafalgar Day and we are very pleased to welcome Rear Admiral Clink as our Guest of Honour. For just £37.50 per person you can expect a sumptuous Dinner to include ‘Shang-hi’ chilli prawns, prime Cornish fillet steak, followed by ‘Nelson and Hamilton’s’ Just Desserts and ‘Hardy’s finale’ and of course a glass or two of the finest port. Be sure to sign up on the list soon to reserve your place. The Upper Deck looks fantastic when we hold these formal dinners.
Please respect your fellow members by not taking magazines from the Oak Room if they are marked “Please do not remove. Reserved for….” These magazines were bid for by a member at the AGM and are held for them until the new magazine has arrived.
