Happy New Year to all and a reminder that the Club will re-open on Wednesday, 18 January.
AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT …………
Just in case you missed the last news letter before Christmas – here are the details again.
The Club would really like to get some of you sailors and cruisers into the club in the dark, dreary months ahead and of course whilst your boats are high and dry! So for the next month or two the Friday evening talks are to have a watery theme! The talks however, will still be really interesting to all our regulars attendees and land lubbers too!
27 January 2017 – Robin Elsey – Offshore Sailor
The first talk of 2017 is to be given by Robin Elsey. Robin is a local and extraordinarily successful young offshore sailor who is trying hard to promote Falmouth as a major sailing centre for offshore races. He has lots of very useful experience for anyone contemplating solo offshore racing such as potential AZAB sailors. He has a string of successful races already under his belt including the most recent – 1st Rookie in the Solitaire Du Figaro 2015. So come along to hear what he has to say and perhaps bring a friend or two with you. He is sure to inspire you!!
10 February 2017 – SKB Sails
On a more practical note Nick Head manager of SKB Sails in Penryn will be giving us an insight into the business. He started work in the Sail Loft as an apprentice and ended up taking over the reins! This is sure to be an interesting evening and there is a lot more to it than just sails! Lots of tips and advice. The following afternoon (Saturday 11 February) there will be a visit to the Sail Loft where many of you will have your sails in safekeeping over the winter months! Come along and learn more…….
17 February 2017 – A snapshot of farming in the 1990s
John Head 3 times AZAB competitor and fourth generation local veterinary surgeon will give a very amusing recollection of the Farming Community in Cornwall. This will be an illustrated talk with black and white photos taken over the years. Anyone who knows John will understand that this will be a guaranteed fun evening!
So on with the practicalities …… With effect from the first talk of the year there will be a small charge of £2.50 per person to help offset the cost of speakers. The amount may be paid on the night at the bar. To those of you who may not have been before – food is served from 6.30pm with all talks commencing at 8pm. If you prefer to just come along for a drink and the talk that is fine too. The lists for all 3 talks are up in the bar so do put your name down quickly and don’t forget to bring a friend. If you can’t wait until the club re-opens on 18 January give Karen a ring or email and she will put your name down for you!
Quiz Night – Wednesday 25 January
The first quiz night of 2017 will be hosted by Grant Walker on Wednesday 25 January at 7pm. Everyone welcome – come along and exercise the brain cells with your knowledge of trivia! There is a charge of £1 per person to enter the quiz, which will be the prize money at the end of the evening. Suppers are available to order from the menu board and there are also some nibbles during the first round of the quiz, free of charge.
NEW DOOR ENTRY CODE
