The forecast of fresh to strong SE wind over the weekend resulted in only four entries – Carte Blanche and Inn Spirit in the Fully-crewed division and Just4Play and Daring Two-handed – and on the day the short-handed boats decided not to go. Race officer, Jack Penty, chose a clockwise course so that the strong winds forecast for the early hours of Sunday morning would be on a downwind leg.
At dusk on Saturday Inn Spirit notified the RO that she had retired, leaving Carte Blanche to soldier on alone. After experiencing 30kt gusts during the night she completed the 130-mile course at 0835 on Sunday morning. Well done to George Tetley and crew who used the race to qualify for the Fastnet Race in August.
