The RCYC welcomes back the University Sailing Club (FXU).
Weather permitting, there will be a taster session for new FXU members on Saturday 24th September followed by dinghy racing from the Club on Sunday 25th September between 0900 and 1600hrs.
These sessions are organised by and for the University Sailing Club Members to promote interest in sailing.
They will be the start of regular weekend visits over the course of the winter, taking place from the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club with the permission and encouragement of the Officers of the Club.
We trust that all RCYC Members will extend a warm welcome to the FXU Members and provide encouragement to them as Corporate Members of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club.
Do come along and support this event to raise money for charity, whilst enjoying a variety of dishes created by our talented Chef, Brian. The cost is just £12.50 per person, and should be paid in cash or by cheque to RCYC Commodore’s Charity. List is now up in the bar.
First TALK of the Season – Peter Collett
Friday 7 October
A sure sign that the autumn is here is the start of the Friday talks! The first one needs little introduction as you will all know the speaker well – Peter Collett. Peter’s talk is titled “Life in Water and on the Waterâ€. It is sure to be an entertaining evening.
To those of you who haven’t come to a talk before – food is served from 6.30pm and the talk starts promptly at 8pm. There is no charge for the talk which takes place on the Upper Deck and no need to eat if that is not your thing! Just come along. The evening is very sociable, informal and will give you an opportunity, if you so wish, to sample the new menus and wines available from the bar. This will be a popular talk so do put your name down quickly on the list which is in the bar (telephone 01326 311105) or contact the office (01326 312126).
If any other members would like to follow Peter’s fine example of being a speaker please contact Rachel racheltrant14@btopenworld.com There must be lots of you with interesting hobbies, careers or past experiences etc which would interest members through the autumn/winter months Alternatively if you have any ideas of subjects you would like to have covered please pass them on.
Inflatables
A Red Zodiac Futura 3.8 and an Orange Zodiac 2.6 have been left in the Dinghy Park at the Club.
They are deflated and appear to be in a state of disrepair, and they have been temporarily placed in the Tender Compound. Will the owner(s) please make contact with the Bosun by the end of September and arrange for their removal or continued storage. If no information has been received by the 1st October they will be sent to the dump.
EXTRA HELP REQUIRED for next gardening session
28th September at 9.30am
At the last couple of sessions we have been a little thin on the ground. Please excuse the pun! The bank has become rather overgrown and we could really do with a little extra male assistance to clear the path and thin out some of the bushes. There will also be the normal tidying up to be done around the front of the Clubhouse and the perimeter of the car park. Please come along and give a hand. Dress of the day – sensible footwear and gloves and some hand tools, loppers and secateurs if you have them. Coffee will be provided. Any questions in the meantime please contact Eleanor 01326 318351 or Rachel 01326 212185.
Cruising Logs – Holman Cup and Vage Flagon
Please remember that cruising logs are due in by the end of September for review by a ‘ Cruising Panel’ and presented at the Club prizegiving on 15 October.
For further details please contact Peter Flutter – flutterpb@yahoo.co.uk
Bridge
Bridge classes will recommence on Thursday 6th October, but to avoid a clash with the proposed Meanderers’ laying up lunch, bridge will commence at 2.30pm on that day only, commencing at 2pm on Thursdays thereafter. All Members are welcome. Anyone interested who has not taken part before please contact Andrew Pool on 01326 374433.
Sunday Walks
We will be starting the Sunday morning walk programme again on Sunday 30th October. These are sociable rambles, generally of 3 to 4 miles, which allows us to get back to the Clubhouse in time for Sunday lunch (optional but delightful!) If any of you have a suggestion for a particular favourite walk, or even better would like to volunteer to lead one, please let me know.
