The AGM is just around the corner and with it comes the annual changeover of Committee Members. This year we wave goodbye to 4 of our 10 strong Committee and we urgently need some “replacementsâ€. It would be really great to have some new faces on the Committee with different ideas for the coming years. The Committee is a friendly group who meet just once a month on a Wednesday evening at the Club. It’s not all about baking cakes and buttering sandwiches but an opportunity to thrash around new ideas that will hopefully encourage members to come along and enjoy the social side of the club.
Unfortunately Rachel, our current Social Secretary is also standing down because of family commitments and this means there is also her job up for grabs too! If you fancy a bit of organising and booking events this could well be the job you have been waiting for. If you would like to know more about the Social Secretary position or being a Committee Member please contact Rachel on firstname.lastname@example.org or Michelle on email@example.com Alternatively catch us when we are out and about in the Club. We would both be delighted to hear from you.
Spring is sprung – and that’s official!
That time of year is here when the monthly Gardening Sessions start again. There is general tidying to be done, sprucing up the pots and cutting back of some of the old growth. Please come along with a few hand tools if you have them on Wednesday 22 March at 9.30am to make the garden look spic and span. New faces are always welcome and coffee will be provided. Dress of the day – sensible footwear and gloves! Any questions in the meantime please contact either Eleanor 01326 318351 or Rachel 01326 212185.
Unfortunately we are not able to screen the Rugby match tomorrow, Saturday, 11th March.
However we will screen the match on Saturday 18th March if there is enough interest. We will keep the bar open and light snacks will be available.
It would be helpful if you would let us know if you intend to come in – the list is in the bar or telephone 01326 311105.
Congratulations to Nicole Ames
Nicole has informed us that she passed her RYA Regional Race Officer Course last weekend and is ready to help with racing, this will make a great addition to the Club’s existing Race Officers.
Well done Nicole!
The America’s Cup, Past, Present and Future
RANULF RAYNER, who is a previous winner of the BOOK OF THE SEA award, presented to him at the annual London Boat Show, has been interested in The America’s Cup since his father became involved in the Sceptre syndicate in 1958.
His book ‘The Story of the America’s Cup 1851-2013’, now in its ninth addition and published in several languages, has sold all over the world.
Also an artist, his accomplished painting of the 2013 event in San Francisco is offered for silent auction in aid of helping the young and disadvantaged experience life at sea.
Ranulf Rayner will be giving his talk on Friday, 31st March at 8 pm. Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity – sign up on the list in the bar or contact the office to add your name. Suppers will be served from 6.30 pm as normal.
