The America’s Cup, Past, Present and Future
RANULF RAYNER, who is a previous winner of the BOOK OF THE SEA award, presented to him at the annual London Boat Show, has been interested in The America’s Cup since his father became involved in the Sceptre syndicate in 1958.
His book ‘The Story of the America’s Cup 1851-2013’, now in its ninth addition and published in several languages, has sold all over the world.
Also an artist, his accomplished painting of the 2013 event in San Francisco is offered for silent auction in aid of helping the young and disadvantaged experience life at sea.
Ranulf Rayner will be giving his talk on Friday, 31st March at 8 pm. Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity – sign up on the list in the bar or contact the office to add your name. Suppers will be served from 6.30 pm as normal.
A tricky job…..
The task of raising the Club mast is always very tricky as shown by some of these pictures. A huge thank you to the team of volunteers – Neil Hopkins, Peter Visick, Jeff Martin, Hugh Kellett, Ivor Martin and of course our bosun, Craig Griffiths, who drew the short straw and had go up in the cherry picker!
Our menu this year for the Ladies Dinner on Saturday 11th March has an Italian theme and sounds absolutely delicious – click here to see it. Our guest speaker, Hilary Keam, is renowned for bringing lots of laughter and she has been writing and performing her own Cornish Dialect poems for the past forty years. This should be a really fun evening with mouthwatering food so do come along and enjoy it.
Commodore Jamie Miller CBE, Guest Speaker,
Numbers for the Men’s Dinner on Friday 10 March are building nicely. Again, the menu looks fantastic – click here to see it. Commodore Jamie Miller CBE Royal Navy Regional Commander makes a welcome return as Guest Speaker
The lists these dinners are in the bar. Both dinners are ‘formal’ (black tie/evening dress) and start at 7 for 7.30pm.
If there is enough interest we will keep the bar open and screen the Rugby matches on the big screen in the Upper Deck.
It would be helpful if you would let us know if you intend to come in – lists are in the bar or telephone 01326 311105.
