CARRS Land Rover Flying Fifteen National Championships (FF15)
The FF15 National Championships is taking place from 27 – 30 September and we now have almost 50 entries from across the UK so it promises to be a great event. We still need helpers for launch and recovery, especially on the Saturday – timings will probably be around 10am and 4pm – please contact Dave Owens blue2kite@gmail.com if you can help or speak to Robin Taylor – 07836 359621 – for more information.
Date of Prize Giving
Because the original date of the prize-giving clashes with the Special General Meeting, it has been decided to move the date to 27th October.
Film Shoot
The Club has received a request for a Rustler or similar for a photo shoot next Thursday 28th September.
If you can help please contact Lucy at lucy@mavericksports.com
or 0207 378 6969 or mob 07725 256427.
The shoot is for Susie Goodall who is to participate on the Golden Globe
IRC Challenge Cup
Last Saturday an open IRC challenge cup was held with 15 entries, there were entries for IRC 1 and IRC 2 classes, the wind was light but the second race for IRC 2 had to be abandoned. There was prize giving at the club afterwards, where there was also a barrel of beer sponsored by Ancasta Marine.
This was the second of the IRC open challenge cups and we hope to hold two next year as all of the skippers and crews enjoyed the last sail of the RCYC season.
The results are:
Class IRC 1
Insatiable Tim Cunliffe
Vindscreen Viper Duncan Adams/Craig Brown
Juno Johnny Walker
Class IRC 2
Encore David Cunliffe
Excelle John Fox/Toby Claridge
Fuxache Robin Edwards
The Happy Couple
Congratulations to Tash and Lee who got married last Saturday – Tash looked radiant in her beautiful wedding gown.
Thank you to all the club members who donated towards to Tash and Lee’s wedding present and signed the wedding card. The money went towards their honeymoon at an all-inclusive resort in Bulgaria. We hope they are having a fabulous time and look forward to hearing all about it when Tash returns. Thank you to everyone who helped make the start of their married life so memorable
SOCIAL things
The nights are drawing in and that can only mean one thing – talks at the club will start shortly. Lists are now up for our first talk on 6th October by a member of Bristow’s Helicopter Search and Rescue Service and also for the talk on 20th October by David Pollard about the Cutty Sark, the exceptional and highly successful Tea Clipper. David Pollard, who lives in Cornwall, is well known for his talks on cruise ships, including Cunard. The Club is extremely lucky to have both these speakers so please support them.
Saturday 21st October is Trafalgar Day and we are very pleased to welcome Rear Admiral Clink as our Guest of Honour. For just £37.50 per person you can expect a sumptuous Dinner to include ‘Shang-hi’ chilli prawns, prime Cornish fillet steak, followed by ‘Nelson and Hamilton’s’ Just Desserts and ‘Hardy’s finale’ and of course a glass or two of the finest port. Be sure to sign up on the list soon to reserve your place. The Upper Deck looks fantastic when we hold these formal dinners.
Club magazines
Please respect your fellow members by not taking magazines from the Oak Room if they are marked “Please do not remove. Reserved for….” These magazines were bid for by a member at the AGM and are held for them until the new magazine has arrived.
