Racing at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club
March 8th 2008 - Race Night
Supporting Sailing for the Blind
A different form of racing occurred on this evening at the Club. Many members sponsored horses in a number of televised race, while others placed bets in aid of charity on individual horses. Despite some technical difficulties, the racing went very well and the titfers and tantalisers on the ladies were bouncing all over the place with enthusiasm. Each race climaxed with a crescendo of shouts urging the various horses onward, to be followed by 'hurrahs' for the winners and sighs from the losers.
The sterling work of Jackie Turnbull and the team in press-ganging (no, I mean finding) sponsors for each horse and for the six races themselves, generated over £1000 on the night, some of which will go to the chosen charity.
Thanks are due to everyone involved on the night including horse-owners, sponsor, bookies, and bettors.
