Racing at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club
Long Distance racing
The RCYC has hosted the start and finish for the Azores and Back race for a number of years. The AZAB is held every four years and involves short-handed ocean racing. The next AZAB is in 2011. As qualifier races for the AZAB, we organise a shorter race into the Atlantic for 500 miles. The Fal 500 is held regularly the year before the AZAB race, and more recent innovation is the Trinity Race essentially rounding a number of the Trinity House Lighthouses in the near Channel.
As well as our own hosted long distance races there are others organised by other Clubs on the south coast. These include
- Round Britain Race hosted by the Royal Western Yacht Club as a qualifier for the OSTAR.
- Petit Bateau organization who raced from
Mylor/Kinsale/Dingle/Gijon(N. Spain) to South Brittany and back in 2008.
- The Royal Southampton Yacht Club leads the Solent
group in two-handed race organization with a series every year.
- The Royal Torbay Yacht Club run the YM triangle each year.
