Announcement                     October 2008

SHETLAND ROUND BRITAIN & IRELAND RACE 2010

The Royal Western Yacht Club is pleased to announce the publication of the Notice of Race for this event.  It is available via the club website at: www.rwyc.org.

This will be edition twelve of the famous two-handed sailing race, originally conceived by Blondie Hasler to compliment the Club’s mould-breaking single-handed trans-Atlantic OSTAR.  Run at four yearly intervals, the “Round Britain” has attracted most of the world famous sailors, many of whom return to do it again and again.  It is acknowledged by all as a challenge not to be missed, regarded as harder than the straight ocean crossings.  A true test of seamanship and a huge achievement for all serious yachtsmen and yachtswomen.

Open to all monohulls and multihulls between 30’ and 50’ length, crewed by two experienced people, the race starts at Plymouth on Sunday 6th June 2010.  Four compulsory stops at Kinsale, Barra, Lerwick, and Lowestoft of 48 hours for rest and recreation, before the return to Plymouth.  Social life at Plymouth and all stopover ports will be, as usual, legendary !    Boats will be in classes under IRC and MOCRA Rating systems, and there will be Classes for “Open” and “One Design” groups when numbers permit.

Berthing restrictions limit the total entry to 50 boats, so early reservation is advised.

Make 2010 your “Round Britain Year”.  You will not be disappointed.
