Race Officer (RO)

Responsible for all aspects of Safety

Makes decision to hold the race

Manages the Race

Supervises Team

Selects Courses and manages Mark Layer

Marks course for each class on chartlets

Selects start line position

Monitors progress of Race

Decides when and where race will finish

Assistant  Race Officer (ARO)

Monitors wind at all times while afloat and relays to RO

Assists RO with course and start line selection

Sets Start line

Monitors start from Pin End – identifies OCS

After starts acts as patrol boat and monitors fleet progress and relays to RO

Available to act as finishing boat if course shortened

Mark Layer

Monitors wind at all times while afloat and relays to RO

Lays marks as directed by RO

After starts acts as patrol boat and monitors fleet progress and relays to RO

Available to act as finishing boat if course shortened

Radio

Ensures that course information is provided and correct

Makes all course and countdown broadcasts

After starts repeats courses on request

Timing

Monitors and prompts on all timings leading up to start

Leading up to and during starts, controls timing of broadcasts

Keeps timing of starts and finishes

Signals (Horn)

Display of course boards

At direction of Timing, makes all start sound signals

At direction of RO makes other sound signals (Recall, postpone etc)

Signals (Flags)

Produces list of courses and passes to Radio

Display of course boards

At direction of RO makes appropriate flag signal with hand held flags

Recorder

Recording starters

Recording retirements from the race

Recording finishers

Committee Boat Captain and Crew

Conduct of Committee Boat afloat

Anchoring

General assistance as requested by the RO

Bosun

Responsible for all equipment to be used on the day

(Equipment checking and preparation undertaken prior to day)
