Members' Section

Under the Data Protection Act, the Club has a number of legal responsibilities for and on behalf of its members. Below are the major items of responsibility which will be expanded as the full impact of the Act becomes clearer and the new Membership system is implemented.

The Club holds information on Club members (as well as Suppliers and a number of other individuals and organisations). This information is held purely to allow the Club to manage and deliver services for its members. Essentially, the information is  details of member's name, contact details (home address, telephone numbers, email addresses), personal details (birth date, sailing qualifications) and details of their yacht (name, MMSI number, SSR number, permit for defaced club ensign, etc). This information is held within a secure server against attack from electronic sources (using appropriate password and access limits) and is used only to meet the needs of the Club to support the members.

The Club will not sell or distribute the members' information to external organisations or individuals, nor will it be used for contact via external organisations except and unless to better serve the members.

A member can request details of the information that the Club holds and maintains on that member. This will be provided by post to the member's address within twenty days of a formal request. Additionally, once a year with the subscription renewal, there will be a printout for each member showing the information held on that member. The Club expects and requires that each member will review this information and respond with corrections or a confirmation that the information is correct and current.
