CANCELLED - Trinity Race

May 29 - 31, 2009

It is with great sadness that I must inform you that the number of entrants for the proposed Trinity Race has fallen far short of the minimum number we needed to proceed with this race on 29th May-31st May. We were assured that several local boats would enter close to the deadline, but this has not materialised even after we altered the race dates so not to clash with other racing around the Port. The entry closes today and we have just 4 confirmed entries.

The Sailing Committee has, therefore, taken the decision it is not in the Clubs best interests to run an event with so few boats as clearly it needs many more than four for a competitive race for the competitors to enjoy and the safety issues and the cost of race organisation on the management of the race do not make sense. We must conclude that as the race did not receive popular support it is not what the Members want-a shame from some aspects because overnight racing at sea brings a lot to crews in understanding their seamanship skills and the capability of their yachts.

Trinity House had agreed to sponsor this Race in several ways and I will be writing to their Director of Operations who is a keen yachtsman himself, thanking him for their kind offer and explaining the Clubs position. We did try and run the Race last year and had to cancel through lack of support.

Peter Collett

Hon Sailing Secretary

The Calling notice and the Notice of Race were published earlier in the year. The Sailing Instructions are published in May. However as the race is cancelled, no entry forms will be accepted.
