Cruising at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club
Whether exploring far flung ports or the upper reaches of our local rivers and estuaries, the RCYC Cruising group has arranged a broad programme this year. One of the primary objectives of the RCYC is to encourage cruising in sailing and motor yachts. Details of the next meeting is below.
Recent events are listed next and you can access any reports, images or details to see what you missed or to remind you of the activity.
The 2007 season provided meets in areas as far apart as the Golfe du Morbihan, South Brittany and Loch Scavaig, Isle of Skye. In 2008 we have some of the old favourite events and all RCYC members are welcome. It’s not a group you have to join, as a member of the RCYC you are already part of it. Whether you cruise the most luxuriously appointed motor yacht or camp out in your stripped out racing machine for the occasional non-competitive meet, there is a welcome waiting for you.

Enjoyment and companionship are the key aims. Every skipper is master of their own boat and whether you cruise in company or just appear at the venue having made your own way there is up to you. Many of us cruise to get away from it all and if this is your preference you may just want to join us at some of the club based events. Fitting-Out and Laying-Up Suppers are held each year together with a selection of other club based events in the cruising calendar.
At events held away from the Club, each day there will be a ‘host boat’. The skipper has a coordinating role making sure the event runs smoothly and acting as a liaison point. A drinks party, held on the pontoon or beach, helps to get everyone together and introduces those who have not joined a meet before to old hands. A brief account is normally available on the website shortly after the event so take a look and consider joining in.
