Cruising at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club
Tenders to Roundwood Quay
May 17th 2008
An intrepid group of RCYC members arrived at Roundwood Quay on the Fal for the annual rub-a-dub meet despite the un-promising forecasts. The tides were about half way twix springs and neaps making the high at the planned venue of Roundwood Quay at mid afternoon, so the BBQ was arranged around that time.
Boats began to arrive at the bend in the Fal by the Smugglers Inn at lunchtime and picked up available moorings well off the old Quay which had been used in far off times to load ships with produce and is now in the care of the National Trust. Our Vice Commodore and his Lady arrived by Boot rather than by Boat, their flotation device having not yet been launched.
Those afloat all arrived at the quay by dinghy. BBQ fires were lit and liquid refreshment opened in the cool but not unpleasant conditions, which discouraged the flies and midges from venturing out to irritate the gathering. Nic Harrop and daughter arrived at the quay in their 15 foot gaff rigged Falmouth Punt while Incite arrived on a mooring at just high water having completed the Saturday race.

The sun shone on the courageous and a very pleasant time was had by all with barbecued food and boxed wine being consumed in ample quantities. Another excellent venue christened for future use by our members. During the early evening a hasty retreat was beaten back to the shelter of those yachts before we were blessed with a little more rain!!!
Some remained at the chosen mooring or anchor until the next day so enjoying the peace and true tranquillity of the beautiful river Fal. As darkness fell it was proved yet again that a torch is only a metal container in which to store dead batteries prior to their disposal.
